Opeyemi E. Lamikanra, MD Orthopedic Hand SurgeonSpeaker & Mentor
Opeyemi E. Lamikanra, MD is a double board certified surgeon specializing in both orthopedics and hand surgery. She has been fellowship trained to treat common hand conditions as well as complex, detailed injuries. Conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, ganglion cyst, dupuytren’s disease, and arthritis are the most common conditions. Her extra training allows her to provide high level skilled care of tendon, nerve and bone injuries of the hand, wrist, and elbow, including microvascular surgery. She emphasizes collaborative care with the patient and has been recognized for her All-star care experience.
Originally from Tallahassee, FL, Dr. Lamikanra attended Duke University for her undergraduate studies where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and minors in African & African American Studies and Chemistry. She then spent a year as a clinical research assistant at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City before enrolling at Morehouse School of Medicine. During her medical studies, she was inducted in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society and graduated with magna cum laude honors. Her Ivy League orthopedic residency training was completed at Yale New Haven hospital followed by hand surgery training at University of Miami Hospital. She returned to Atlanta to make it her home and has practiced orthopedic hand surgery in the area since 2016.
Dr. Lamikanra is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and has presented at their national and international conferences. She has also performed volunteer surgery for them internationally, and currently serves on their Young Leadership Steering Committee.
